RIDER KABUTO是幪面超人诞生35周年纪念作品，采用昔日昆虫(巨型甲虫角日语KABUTOMUSHI)的设计，配合如幪面超人555般充满金属机械感，当中新颖的战斗场面采用了有如Matrix的拍摄手法，大量CG增加了速度感及观感， KABUTO的技能及必杀，更显其更潇酒有型。 故事讲述涉谷被掉下的宇宙硕石毁灭，七年后出现的宇宙生物WORM四处杀害人类，纵使日本特别组织ZECT出动也徒然，成员加贺美新知道只有开发的腰带能与宇宙生物匹敌，但给拥有静头脑且身手敏捷的天道总司，取得甲虫形态KABUTO ZECTOR的控制权变身幪面超人KABUTO把WORM打败。 随着七年前与岩石掉下毁灭涉谷的宇宙生物WORM，基本形态为绿色的「蛹」，统一的外貌有一双手掩盖面孔，遇见过的人类便能模拟对方面貌、行为及声音，在人类社会杀害及侵略活动，纵使ZECT军事武器也未能使WORM损伤。从「蛹」进化脱皮为成虫，而外貌变化各有不同，活动及破坏能力也大大提升，并可进行超越人类感知能力的加速运动性，此现象被称为「CLOCK UP」。
